Summer is prime time for outdoor sports, vacations, BBQs, festivals, and long days in the sun. While you are enjoying those activities and the hot weather, it’s easy to be hit by dehydration.
This summer, keep yourself on top of your game with these five hydration-boosting tips:
Drink regularly. 64-ounces of H2O per day becomes more doable once you create the healthy habit of hydration.* To do this, make it a point to drink water first thing in the morning each day, and two hours before bed. This will ensure you don’t get behind on your water consumption during the busier parts of the day.
Get creative. Many people fail to consume enough water because they don’t enjoy the taste. One of the simplest ways to jazz up your water is to infuse it with fresh herbs and vegetables like cucumber and mint, which can give your ordinary bottle of water an extraordinary and healthy dose of flavor. Try one of our newly announced Purposeful Hydration flavors to take your water to the next level.
Set an alarm. Using a timer can be a helpful way to establish better drinking habits. To do this, simply set the alarm on your phone for every hour. When it goes off, drink an 8-ounce cup of water.
Drink slowly. It’s important to avoid chugging a glass, but instead finish the drink slowly. Make this your 10-minute time-out to just relax and reset, then go back to work hydrated and more peaceful.
Don’t forget food! Food (not just beverage!) choices can account for approximately 20 percent of our daily fluid intake, and are therefore a major contributor to overall hydration status. Luckily, many foods that are in season in the hot summer months are naturally rich in water, carbohydrates and minerals, including those all-important electrolytes.
