Bone health is often forgotten when examining overall health. Bones also have health needs, just like any other part of the body, so it is important to keep them in optimal condition.
Protecting your bones can potentially add more years of activity and mobility while decreasing the risk of life-altering bone fractures and breaks. This means more games of tag with your children or grandchildren, longer walks with your pets, and living with the comfort in knowing that you are doing what’s necessary to care for your bones.
Increase overall bone health by considering these tips:
EAT WELL – Just like any other part of your body, your bones will benefit when you eat healthy. Try adding more vegetables to your Lean & Green meals that are high in vitamin C. These veggies can protect from bone damage and increase density.
EXERCISE – The more you use your bones, the stronger they can become. When you’re ready, practice the MacroHabit of healthy motion by walking at your own pace. Then, as you progress, you can develop a routine for improving bone density through regular exercise.
MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT – One of the many benefits of achieving a healthy weight is that you will eliminate the added stress on your bones, which can make you susceptible to fractures and breaks.
GET NATURAL SUN EXPOSURE – Get outside for natural sunlight, even in the winter! Set a goal to glean 5-10 minutes of natural sun exposure each day by trying a quick walk around your block during lunchtime. Your body and your bones will thank you for the daily dose of natural vitamin D.
Implementing these practices into your health and wellness routine can help your bones remain strong and healthy, while improving your overall health and energy.
